Scottish Landscape Photo Print of The Tree at Milarrochy Bay
The Tree at Milarrochy Bay
The tree at Milarrochy Bay is perhaps the most photographed tree in Scotland, it’s proximity to Glasgow and the beauty of it’s surrounding make it a very popular destination for photographers. As it sits on the east shore of Loch Lomond it has the setting sun behind the far mountains behind which is a major factor in it’s popularity.
The tree itself is an oak but has very stunted growth due to the exposure of a large proportion of it’s root system which, during the winter months are submerged and as the loch water level recedes it finds itself on dry land, fortunately Loch Lomond is a fresh water loch.
The effect in this photograph is achieved by forcing the camera to take a long exposure by using a neutral density filter that altered the exposure time from 1/160the to 240 seconds. During this time the clouds moved across the sky causing the streaks.
